Welcome to the Tibetan Literacy Project. We are a registered charity dedicated to one purpose: sending Tibetan children in need to school.
Since 2010, the Tibetan Literacy Project has given dozens of children the opportunity to receive the education they deserve.
These days, being a poor Tibetan child inside Tibet isn't easy. Without a basic education and the ability to speak Chinese, options in life are limited. Just as in developed countries these kids become at risk for a life working in the black market, selling drugs, or stealing just to make a living. The Tibetan Literacy Project is trying to change that. We send poor, disadvantaged, and orphaned children to bilingual schools where they learn both Chinese and Tibetan. We support them further by providing tutors for both they and their parents to keep kids engaged and learning even while home on breaks.
Our hope is to help create a generation of children fully able to participate in modern society and the political and spiritual future of Tibet.
Costs for sending a child to school for a year are, by western standards, cheap. But the benefits of that education can't be measured.
